The Variant 4, with its three-way high-performance dampers (independently adjustable low speed and high speed compression stage as well as low speed rebound stage) is now also available for the Audi RS5 Coupé (B9). It offers an ideal alternative to the Audi Dynamic Ride Control suspension kit. Despite the lower center of gravity of the RS models, a continuous lowering of up to 25 mm is possible on the RS5. With the new KW Variant 4 coilover kit, KW automotive, the suspension manufacturer, raises the bar of individual suspension solutions by continuously developing its technology. “While suspension kits with three-way performance-adjustable dampers are exclusively used for race cars, with our Variant 4, we have adapted this motor sport technology especially for the street”, describes KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker in regards to the new suspension technology. ”We develop the Variant 4 exclusively for super sports cars and performance sedans. Certain automobile manufacturers have even chosen to equip select cars with our V4 technology.” An Audi RS5 Coupé (B9) equipped with the KW Variant 4 coilover kit drives more direct and harmoniously, without affecting the remaining driving comfort. During load changes, the Audi RS5 with a KW Variant 4 coilover kit installed behaves with precision and stays controllable even during significantly sporty driving behavior. Additionally, the Coupé gets a lot more adjustment parameters compared to the series model, in order to further increase the driving dynamics and the driving comfort. Straight from the factory, the RS5 Coupé is lowered compared to the A5. The Variant 4 coilover kit still enables a further individual lowering of up to 25 mm; which would be a lowering of 65 mm at the Audi A5. The stepless adjustment range at the front axle strut is 5 – 25 mm. At the multi-link rear axle, the continuous lowering is adjusted via the rear axle height adjustment and provides a lowering of 5 – 25 mm.

Thanks to the multi-valve technology of the dampers the compression and rebound damping forces are much more configurable, which enables an immense range of adjustability. The KW Variant 4 coilover kit allows one to individually adjust the damper forces independently in low speed (6 clicks) and high speed compression stage (14 clicks) as well as in low speed rebound damping (16 clicks). This allows the owner to adjust the RS5 Coupé to the personal driving demand and at the same time, allows for different vehicle modifications to be taken into consideration such as the installation of larger wheel/tire-combinations, changing from OEM tires to other tires, or even performance modifications. From the factory, the setup of the Variant 4 is pre-adjusted to a recommended performance setting. ”Our coilover kits are always delivered in a vehicle-specific basic setup, determined by our ride evaluation engineers on different test tracks and on our 7post rig“, explains KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. Another advantage is that the Variant 4 damper valves have a Blow-Off-characteristics, where at high damper speeds and large volume flows, the high speed valve is opened to support the damping. For example, if the car drives over a sudden inconsistency in the road, the wheels can react harmoniously, and the tires do not lose grip. “Simply said, the Variant 4 in the Audi RS5 ensures an increased driving comfort without a loss in driving dynamics”, the Product Manager continues. The KW Variant 4 coilovers are available for all Audi RS5 (B9) with and without adaptive RS-sport suspension plus with DRC. Soon, the KW Variant 4 will also be available for the Audi RS4 Avant (B9).
