The Audi A3 gets a high-riding version!
It was just a matter of time before we would see the Audi A3 in a high riding version in order to join its brothers with the A1 Citycarver and the allroad versions of the A4 Avant and the A6 Avant.
These higher riding versions are getting more and more popular since they give the buyers the “off-road-look” without having to buy an SUV. Most of the car manufacturers are bringing more and more “Cross” and “Active” versions to the market. In this case, the A3 allroad/Cityhopper suits in perfectly between the A3 and the Q3.
Add some tacked on fender flares, change the design of bumpers and the side sills, change the grille design, make the roof rails standard and raise the suspension and there you go…the Audi A3 allroad or Cityhopper is born.
Well, regarding the name there has been rumors for a while that the name “Cityhopper” would be used for the higher riding A3 but lately some indications say that Audi has chosen the more familiar allroad name instead.
What we can see is that this prototype is a PHEV version (charger port on the left front fender) and that would indicate that the A3 allroad/Cityhopper would come without all-wheel-drive. But it could also indicate that the allroad/Cityhopper package will be available as an option within the A3 line-up with different engine options. I am pretty sure we will also see versions with the quattro all-wheel-drive.
We are expecting a debut in 2022 and by them we will know what name Audi has chosen for this new member of the A3 family.
