Six Audis Compete in Ultimate Audi Drag Race and Two Winners Emerge

Most people don’t buy Audis for drag racing. That is typically more for the Mustang and Corvette crowd. But that doesn’t mean Audis can’t put up a good fight, and that we don’t enjoy watching that fight. And the drag race that Car Wow recently posted on their YouTube channel is one for the ages.

The idea is to see how quick the new S5 is. To benchmark it they bring a trio of RS4s to the track. There is a B5, B7 and B8 hunting the new S5. But to keep things interesting there is also an original Audi R8 and R8 GT V10 in the mix. In this six-car battle only one winner can emerge. Except there are actually two winners. And the gaps between them and the other cars are closer than you might think.

The video is 40 minutes of glorious Audi drag racing fun. We won’t break down the details of every race for you. Afterall, that would take away the thrill of watching it all, right? Let’s start with the winners. The B8 RS4 and the R8 GT Spyder actually tied with identical 12.6 second quarter mile times. The new Audi S5 could not quite keep up but it still posted a respectable 12.8 second time.

Perhaps most surprising of all was the performance of the original Audi B5 RS4. The 6-speed manual wagon ripped through the quarter mile time in just 13.1 seconds. That is a heck of a showing for a car that is 25 years old. It even beat to original R8. The B7 RS4 was the slowest of the group with a time of 13.5 seconds. All six cars were within 1 second of each other in the quarter mile.

None of the cars here have anything to be ashamed of. Perhaps Audis should be entered in more drag races after all.
