PPE-Based Porsche Cayenne Test Mule Spied

We’re keenly interested whenever Porsche models share platform architecture with the Audi range. One such car is the upcoming electric replacement to the Porsche Cayenne, as it’ll be based on the same PPE modular chassis matrix as the Porsche Macan, Audi Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron.

What can we take from spy photos of the Cayenne? Obviously we don’t know spec yet, though you can assume some of that from drivetrains revealed or planned from the Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron and their variants. More importantly, it’s the size and scope we find so relevant.

The current Cayenne shares quite a bit with the other large Volkswagen Group SUVs, whether Q7 or Q8 from Audi, the Lamborghini Urus or the Bentley Bentayga. It’s a bit shorter than all three of those and not a seven-passenger, but its track and general presence is what’s notable. So, an EV Cayenne then likely hints at size positions for any fully EV replacements for the Q8, Urus and Bentayga.

Audi already rebadged the first e-tron as Q8 e-tron, so it’s worth clarifying that a next-generation Q8 e-tron is expected to shift to PPE for underpinnings and also grow to a size more comparable to the current internal combustion Q8.

Our sources suggest Porsche will keep the internal combustion Cayenne soldiering on alongside the EV much as Audi has done with the unrelated Q8 e-tron and Q8 internal combustion model.

This prototype was spied performing high-speed testing at the Nürburgring, a regular haunt for Volkswagen group performance testing during the designated industry test days.

A bigger Porsche SUV subbed K1 is also expected by 2027, likely sharing some more with the also-rumored larger Audi SUV.
