One of Audi’s Most Refined Diesels Is Shockingly Affordable
[Source: CarBuzz]
Do you want a flagship luxury Audi sedan powered by a powerful and refined diesel engine? Do you want to spend less than $25,000? Well, as a recent article by CarBuzz points out, the D4-generation Audi A8L TDI might be the perfect match.
How much of a bargain are these cars? Well, when they were sold here new from 2013 to 2016, they would set you back about $100,000. The car pictured here sold a couple of months ago on Bring a Trailer for $19,000. And this is a clean car with no blemishes on the Carfax report and 99K miles on the clock.
Audi A8L TDI
The A8L TDI is basically a German limousine powered by a silky 3.0L turbocharged V6 diesel engine with 240 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. And it was rated for 36 mpg on the highway. Of course, you must factor in that whole Dieselgate thing, but there is no question that this remains an efficient car. And Audi fans still love the TDI engines. Especially when they are installed in the nose of such a handsome and luxurious car.
Take a look inside this car. It is beautiful. The car is a decade old and has done the equivalent of four trips around the Earth. And the interior still looks brand new. It is made with high quality materials and a classic German design. And there is more than enough space to make everyone comfortable.
A Word of Caution
The A8L TDI is not the sportiest car Audi ever made, but it doesn’t wallow like a 1970s Cadillac either. The big Audi is perfect for gobbling up thousands of highway miles with ease. And remember this is a car that will cost you around $20K today. That is like Nissan Versa money. And these Audis already took the bulk of their depreciation hit. They won’t get too much cheaper.
Of course, there is a large elephant in the room when it comes to buying a car like this. Maintenance and repairs are not going to be cheap. The TDI engine is pretty robust, but this is a complicated luxury sedan that has seen four Presidential terms at this point. Things will need fixing and those things will be expensive. Especially if you have all the work done at a dealer. But if you can find a good independent mechanic or even better, do some of the work yourself, then the cost of upkeep is a lot less intimidating.
So, if you are looking for impressive, diesel-powered German luxury on a Japanese econobox budget, the Audi A8L TDI could be your ticket to driving bliss.
