In 1997, Audi was looking to get back into the showcase of racing, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Their efforts brought forth the R8R and that experience lead to the iconic R8 LMP which won Le Mans in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
To capitalize on this fame, Audi presented the Le Mans quattro concept car at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show and a legend was born.
The Smithsonian Channel show, Supercar Superbuild, dives into the history of the R8. From the Le Mans quattro concept car to the current R8, Supercar Superbuild goes behind the scenes at the factory in Neckarsulm and interviews key people who bring the super car to life.
This episode not only showcases the R8, it also covers the history of Audi and their rise to racing and luxury automotive dominance.
