Supercars on Cannery Row 2017

words and photos by: George Achorn

When it comes to the car enthusiast hobby, there are few events in the nation that can hold a candle to Monterey Car Week. Legends of the Autobahn is just one entry into this crowded list of events. Any number of specialty concours, high end auto auctions and more promise a schedule so overflowing for car enthusiasts that you’ll find yourself playing calendar Tetris trying not to miss anything. From the other end of the exclusive car spectrum comes a gathering of primarily tuned exotic cars on Monterey’s historic Cannery Row.

Imagine cars you’d see on super car rallies like Gumball and you’ll have an idea on what to expect here. Throw in crowds of “car spotters” to rival a Le Mans driver parade all jostling for photos and it makes for a highly unique experience.

Of course, we’re talking exotics, so the main focus for Audi enthusiasts are R8 models of various generations and forms. We spotted any number, from the latest Spyder to first-generation coupes. Even better, being downtown means you can stroll to a nearby brew house or restaurant for dinner then take it all in a second time on the way out.

Below is our full gallery of photos shot at Supercars on Cannery Row, including many that weren’t published in Audi Club North America’s quattro quarterly print magazine coverage.
