Audi Club Lone Star members made an impactful appearance at the Apex Driving Academy’s October HPDE in Cresson, Texas. This High Performance Driving Event was open to all car classes with a large showing of Audis, Porsches, BMWs, Corvettes, and Miatas to name a few.
The Audis were impressive around the turns and on the straights with club members carefully surpassing others throughout the day. Apex Driving Academy has never had a single car-to-car incident in its twenty years of operation. Texas had seen weeks of rain but the day was clear and perfect as club members enjoyed and learned how to maximize their driving skills on Cresson Motor Sport Ranch’s 1.7 mile track, always under the careful supervision of professional driving instructors. The day started at 8 AM with many classroom sessions, followed by intense, 20 minute track intervals. Instructors kept an eye out for symptoms of Red Mist and the day ended around 5PM as perfectly as it started.
Drivers and cars were given time to cool down after each track session and returned to the classroom for more skill building. Every Audi and driver performed just as you might expect, flawlessly!
The club car list was long with several models hitting the track; A4, S4, TTRS, RS5, S6, R8GT. If that wasn’t enough, Don Istook made a surprise appearance in his new R8 RWS! Following Don was Audi specialist, Steve Shelley, in a matching white A6.
Don’s R8 RWS (Rear Wheel Series) is a limited production and the first time Audi has offered a rear-wheel drive street version of the R8 to the public. We look forward to seeing this amazing machine on the track soon!
This was the first HPDE hosted by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter in quite some time but all who attended were already talking about planning another event in the very near future! A special thank you to board member Josh, Sarah, father-and-son Steve and Nathan, Don, Audi Specialist Steve, Scott and Patti, and Darrin for the great enthusiasm, time to prep your cars, key driving skills, and fun-loving spirit! You made the day fun and a great success.
