Round 2 of the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) series at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas generated a lot of excitement among our members marking the start of racing season! Activities for the weekend included the Audi Car Corral, a host of different racing categories, and for the first time in this series, an Audi Sport Hospitality Suite. The PWC series features both Audi R8 LMS and Audi RS3 LMS customer racing teams from all over the country. The series has many different classes, and in total there were 104 race cars that participated. The weather was virtually perfect, and the open paddock and open seating provided great access for visitors to see all the racing teams and their equipment, both on and off the track.
In the Audi Car Corral, our own ACNA RS Werkes Team prominently displayed their entire race rig along with Don Istook’s IMSA TCR class RS3 LMS race car. Our members and other Audi fans were privileged to have an up-close look at the car and its support truck. Audi Fort Worth provided a tailgate experience after the parade lap Saturday evening with many members in attendance and Don working the grill. ACLS member Ab Caram even got to drive the RS3 LMS race car onto the truck after the event under Don’s close supervision of course.
Those of our members who opted for the Audi Sport Hospitality Suite were welcomed to the Paddock Club Suite located on the infield side of the main straight, which is also used for the Audi Driving Experience guests on a regular basis at COTA. It overlooks the paddock and the pit lane, with outside seating just above the pits.
Guests were provided with food and drink all day, and were treated to private paddock tours, hot pit tours, and hot laps in R8s and Q7s. Driver briefings were held in the classroom area of the suite, affording our members an opportunity to meet drivers and ask them questions. Each guest was given an Audi Sport cap as a remembrance of this first-class event!
