When most Americans think of Australia and cars, they imagine wild machines powered by huge V8s and lots of tire smoke…or vehicles from the Mad Max film series. However, Audi Australia has gone a different route- a vehicle powered by a new hex cell source and it is called the b-tron. Here’s the press release:

Audi is shaping the mobility of the future today. The all-new Audi e-tron, due in 2020, pioneers fully-electric mobility in the luxury class. The g-tron range, available in Europe, has led the way in natural gas for several years; the h-tron concept, which debuted at the 2014 LA motor show, offered a stunning vision of hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
Now Audi has gone a step further, utilising one of mankind’s most ancient and energy dense sources: honey. A sustainable, naturally acquired fuel harvested from robina flowers in Bavaria – the spiritual home of the four-ringed marque.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce this exciting new development, which will debut at next month’s New York Auto Show,” says Imker Honig, of Ingolstadt’s legendary Komplett Geschminkt skunkworks. “The idea, which came to me over breakfast, is just one of several new technologies that Audi will debut over the next 12 months.”
“The b-tron concept was very challenging,” says Honig. “Early prototypes tended to attract scores of bees, typically around the hexagonal fuel cap. One tester was swarmed by a hive that had settled in the glove compartment. I don’t think he’ll be doing that again, ha!”
“That said, everyone loves the on-board toaster.”
Hahahaha…April Fools (even though it’s April 3rd). Audi Australia released this piece on April Fools Day and I must say it’s a pretty un-bee-lievably sweet vehicle. Obviously fake but that camo pattern is the bee’s knees. I’ll stop now.
