Introducing AUDI’s First China-Specific Model: The E5 Sportback

After months of teasers, the first vehicle from AUDI, the new China-exclusive self titled sub-brand of Audi, has officially debuted. Meet the all-electric E5 Sportback, a sleek, four-door hatch that promises up to 776 horsepower and marks the beginning of a new era for the brand’s presence in China. Developed in partnership with SAIC and riding on an all-new Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP), the E5 won’t be making its way outside of China, but it does provide a preview of what’s to come within that market.

Slightly larger than an A5 Sportback and with more crossover-inspired proportions, the E5 blends familiar fastback lines with a distinctly minimalistic design. Clean surfaces and slim lighting elements define the look, while the traditional Four Rings are replaced by a bold “AUDI” wordmark, an identity that will carry across all future models under this China-specific marque.

While complete specs remain limited, the E5 will be offered in rear-wheel and Quattro all-wheel drive configurations, with four output levels from 295 horsepower to a range-topping 776 horsepower, capable of sprinting from 0–60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. A battery capacity of up to 100 kWh offers an estimated range of 478 miles (likely based on CLTC figures), and 800-volt charging enables up to 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Inside, a 27-inch 4K display running AUDI OS powered by a Snapdragon chipset sets the tone for a highly digital cockpit. Over-the-air updates, LiDAR-based driver assistance, and nearly button-free controls cater to China’s tech-forward audience. With two more AUDI models on the horizon for 2026 and 2027, the E5 Sportback kicks off this new chapter at Auto Shanghai 2025.
