Sure, passenger cars only account for around 30 percent of the new-vehicle market these days, and yes, some sport-utility vehicles are fun to drive and can be lavishly equipped. But not everyone wants to spend their daily commutes, let alone their precious free time, piloting a boxy people mover.

If you fall into that narrowing category and have the means in which to indulge yourself, the redesigned-for-2019 Audi A7 might just be your antidote to vehicular monotony. As with the previous generation it’s what the industry considers a “four-door coupe,” which is essentially a sedan with a sharply sloping sportback roofline. Other examples of this limited genre include the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe, and the Volkswagen Arteon.
