ACFL Newsletter for January 2017

Fellow ACNA and ACFL Members

First off, hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and families and perhaps a few set an extra place setting for someone who had no one with to spend the holiday. There is yet one more chance.

Secondly, my ninth grade math teacher not only rolled over in her grave but came back to haunt me like the ghosts of Christmas Past regarding my inability to figure out percentages correctly. No wonder she sent me off to summer school that year for a little retraining and retreading. I probably need a refresher course again as the correct number should have been 4.76% instead of 20%. Not sure where the short circuit occurred, perhaps it was between the tips of my fingers, seat of my pants and brain but it did occur and perhaps after 72 years it is time to have my synaptic connections scrubbed with a steel brush and tightened.
Finally, be sure to make plans to attend the BoD meeting on January 7th in order that we can develop activities for 2017. Obviously the LeMans event at Reeves in Tampa is on deck plus a number of other popular events, but what about a drive to the Keys again including a cross state MPG and Kinder Rally? All it takes are volunteers to help plan and execute. We also need folks to work with Andreas, Kerry and myself in the regions planning and execution of events along with some work on the newsletter, articles for the web site and the list goes on. So plan on making a day of it, watch testing for the Rolex and attend the BoD meeting..

Some Final Thoughts

Recently I attended the First Coast Region’s Christmas Party. It was held in the basement fellowship hall of the Anointed Church of God, which is undergoing what has been a 17 year renovation after the building having been condemned is being brought back to life by a very inspired and driven pastor who also happens to be an Audi owner. It was a great Christmas party and the church was certainly a shining light in very hard scrabble area. I hope the region plans to reserve the hall for next year and perhaps other member can make the drive. The fellowship and camaraderie was clearly evident in all who attended and though the food was catered, deserts were home made, that had to be some of the best “home made” catered food I had come across in a long time. Thanks to all whose effort planned and executed the event including Audi Jacksonville who supplied some gifts and the Pastor Vincent Kohn and his wife Laure for allowing the club to use his parish’s fellowship hall. I must say, a group of shiny Audis around a 100 year old Baptist church with Audi flags festooning the entry is not one’s usual club photo. I am sorry I did not take a photo. Perhaps next year and this is up to the region and with the guidance of the pastor they could adopt a family from the parish and bring gifts for the kids and perhaps items to make their lives a little easier. It would also be great if a number of club members from around the state could make the drive and join in on the event. Not to repeat myself but the fellowship, camaraderie and meal were well worth my drive to Jax.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and All the Best for the New Year
Cheers and Especially Safe Motoring
