February 2014 Newsletter – Race Season

Newsletter for February 2014

We were going to start this newsletter by congratulating Flying Lizard for winning the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, but now it seems that IMSA has reversed itself and awarded the win to Ferrari. They’re a first class team, though, no matter how the standings for this race end up.

We kicked off 2014 with a combined Board Meeting and a visit to the Roar Before the Twenty-Four at Daytona International Speedway. There were several Audi teams to cheer, along with diesel Mazdas and the ltest version of the Delta-Wing. The Board Meeting, if perhaps not as exciting, was useful too: Peter Zajac also has retired from the board and has handed over the position of Treasurer to David Loppert. We also welcomed new board member Shannon Tillman, and I have become editor of the newsletter. I know have big shoes to fill there – as always, please send your comments, stories, events, and photos of your cars our way.

Cheers, Walter Moore

Sales numbers for BMW & Audi

Last year was a record year for Audi in the United States: the “fourth-consecutive year of record U.S. demand by recording full-year sales of 158,061, a 13.5% increase over the previous annual record set a year earlier.” Large increases in sales of the Q5 and Q7 lead the charge in December. BMW sold more cars (309,280), but lost out to Mercedes for the number one German luxury brand in the US.  The arrival of the new A3 and the new BMW 1/2 series will shake up the luxury market in 2014.

A3 Configurator

The configurator for the new A3 sedan is online on the Audi of America web site (although you’ll have to hit audi.de oraudi.co.uk if you want to build a manual or a Sportback). The A3 Cabriolet and  S3 have not been priced for our market yet, but is coming in 2014, and should start below $40,000 MSRP.

Bob Greving sends this image with the caption “t can be a rainforest out there, but not with your LED-Scheinwerfer or No dampening of enlightenment….”

If you have a special Audi such as one of the S or RS models or a pre 2000 that you would like to sell, we will list it once in the newsletter. I will need the year, model, color over interior color, and your email address. Longer and non-member postings can be placed in the website. We will also list DKW, NSU, and Wanderer motorcycles. If you are looking for a particular car, once again S, RS or pre 2000 model plus a bike, we will also try to accommodate you here.

For Example: Wanted: Wanderer or DKW motorcycle of motorbike pre 1950 [email protected]

You can also use the Classifieds Forum on the Audi Club of Florida web site.

Final Words..

Welcome to our new ACNA members. Our membership numbers continue to grow; we are now well over 270 members, which mean additional critical mass in different regions of the state and hopefully more events and greater participation. Those of you who are new to the ACNA will receive an on boarding note from David Loppert, if you have; any questions feel free to drop a line to David a href=”mailto:[email protected]” target=”_blank”>[email protected]>. If you have not had a chance yet check out both the ACNA website, and the Audi Club of Florida website. There is a great deal of good information plus some excellent photos of member’s cars.
