March ACFL Newsletter – Twelve Hours of Sebring, and a Tech Center meeting

Twelve Hours of Sebring looks like an interesting race for Audi fans – five R8s are there for the official Sebring Test this weekend. Two cars will be from Flying Lizard, the team that looked like it had won the Rolex 24. After that we have our Seventh annual meet at the Audi Technical Center in Clearwater, and Drop the Flag events for the 24 Hours du Mans.

If you’re interested in getting together with fellow members we’d like to hear from you, especially if you live in South or Southwest Florida. If you’re interested in sharing information about an event or becoming a regional contact for the club, contact [email protected].

Cheers,
Walter Moore

/DRIVE has posted more episodes of “Inside Quattro GmbH”  – including a tour of Audi Tradition:

Sales numbers for Audi and BMW

Luxury car sales included to expand in the US in January despite horrible weather (everywhere except Florida) and shaky economic forecasts. BMW posted a 10% gain over January 2013, with very strong sales of the 3/4 & 5-series. Meanwhile, Audi’s overall sales only grew 0.4%, but this was the 37th consectutive record month for the company, and Q5 & Q7 sales increased 18% and 42%. No doubt these numbers will improve dramatically when A3 sedan sales start showing up in the results.

Five Audi R8 LMS cars heading to the Sebring Test

The Audi Motorsport blog reports:
“The official Sebring Test will be held this week, Thursday to Friday, 20-21 February.

“Five Audi R8 LMS cars will be taking part in the test, all within the GT Daytona (GTD) class. All five of the cars, from four different teams, were seen at the season opening 24 Hours of Daytona.

“Flying Lizard Motorsports will again be entering their two cars (#35 and #45), both of which are currently listed with TBA as their driver line-ups.

“A single car each will again be entered by Fall-Line Motorsports, GMG Racing and Paul Miller Racing. The #46 Fall-Line Motorsports R8 LMS will be driven by Christopher Mies, Charlie Putman and Charles Espenlaub. The #32 GMG Racing R8 LMS will have James Sofronas, Alex Welch and Marc Basseng behind the wheel. Paul Miller Racing’s #48 R8 LMS will be driven by Matthew Bell, Christopher Haase and Bryce Miller.”

If you have a special Audi such as one of the S or RS models or a pre 2000 that you would like to sell, we will list it once in the newsletter. I will need the year, model, color over interior color, and your email address. Longer and non-member postings can be placed in the website. We will also list DKW, NSU, and Wanderer motorcycles. If you are looking for a particular car, once again S, RS or pre 2000 model plus a bike, we will also try to accommodate you here.

For Example: Wanted: Wanderer or DKW motorcycle of motorbike pre 1950 [email protected]

Final Words..

Welcome to our new ACNA members. Our membership numbers continue to grow; we are now well over 270 members, which mean additional critical mass in different regions of the state and hopefully more events and greater participation. Those of you who are new to the ACNA will receive an on boarding note from David Loppert. If you have any questions feel free to drop a line to David. If you have not had a chance yet check out both the ACNA website, and the Audi Club of Florida website. There is a great deal of good information plus some excellent photos of member’s cars.
