Find of the Day: Own a Piece of History With This Audi R18 e-tron Quattro
Just last week we featured what we believed to be the least valuable Audi ever in our Find of the Day series. The 1977 Audi Fox project car ended up selling for a mere $350. This week we look at something from the other end of the spectrum. You will likely need to tack a few zeros to the end of that 1977 Audi Fox price if you want to take home this race-proven Audi R18 e-tron Quattro. It is for sale right now at Fiskens. No price is listed so expect to write a massive check.
The R18 e-tron Quattro cannot be more different than the 1977 Audi Fox, although they do have one thing in common. Neither can be driven on the street. The Fox isn’t running at the moment and the R18 is an endurance racer.
Chassis 420
The R18 e-tron offered for sale is a chassis 420. This car finished 5th at Silverstone, 4th at Spa and 7th at Le Mans in 2015. In 2012, another Audi R18 e-tron made history by becoming the first hybrid car to ever win Le Mans. Audi has built several legendary race cars over the years and the R18 e-tron deserves to be mentioned among the very best.
The R18 e-tron uses a 4.0L V6 turbo diesel that makes 540 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. This power is all sent to the rear wheels. There is also an electric motor that generates another 228 horsepower, and that power all goes to the front wheels. The result is a dominating all-wheel drive race car. The R18 e-tron won Le Mans in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Only a handful of R18 race cars are privately owned. An opportunity to purchase one does not come up very often. And while you won’t be able to pop down to the shops in it, you can still enter it in various endurance racing events. Or just shock everyone at your next local track day.
