Find of the Day: 2004 Audi S4 Avant 6speed

words: Bill, photos: Bring A Trailer

Four words: S4, Avant, V8, manual. You could throw another word in there which would be Heaven because that’s what this B6 S4 Avant is, in my humble opinion. To quote Mad Max, “She’s the last of the V8s… a piece of history!” Well not quite the last but still…

This particular example has only 85k miles and over $33,000 in service receipts. No mention of the crucial timing chain but it seems to be taking care according to ALL the receipts that you can find in the ad on Bring A Trailer. Here’s the ad:

This 2004 Audi S4 Avant was purchased new by the current owner at Circle Audi of Long Beach, California and has been registered in Southern California since that time. Power comes from a 4.2-liter V8 paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The car is finished in Light Silver Metallic over an Ebony leather interior that was optioned with the Premium Package, and equipment includes a Bose premium sound system, heated front seats, a glass sunroof, and an aftermarket Rydeen rearview mirror with an LCD GPS insert. This B6 S4 Avant now shows 85k miles and is offered by the seller on behalf of the owner at no reserve with $33k in service records dating back to 2004, operating manuals, an Audi first-aid kit, three remote-entry keys, a valet key, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.

Audi produced 85 stick-shift S4 Avant models in this car’s Light Silver Metallic (LY7W) for the 2004 model year. The seller states that more than 10 years ago the car was hit in a parking structure and the right rear quarter panel was repaired and refinished. The accompanying Carfax report is free of accidents and other damage. Scratches on the rear bumper and stone chips are shown in the photo gallery below [Editor’s note: in the photo gallery on Bring A Trailer…there are over 190 photos].

The seller states that each 18″ Avus wheel shows curb rash and that the Michelin Pilot Sport tires were mounted less than 8k miles ago. Service at 75k miles included replacement of the upper and lower front control arms, the upper rear control arms, and the suspension bushings. An alignment was performed in October 2018 at 78k miles, and the front brake pads and rotors were replaced in January 2019 at Circle Audi of Long Beach, California.

The cabin features Ebony leather upholstery with walnut wood trim and was optioned with the Premium Package. Equipment includes a Bose premium sound system with satellite radio, heated front seats, a glass sunroof, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The seller notes that one of the rear headrests and two areas of the rear seat have indentations due to being folded for extended periods of time. Wear is noted on the center-stack buttons and the headliner is sagging.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames factory instrumentation that includes a digital odometer showing approximately 85k miles. The seller states that a Rydeen rearview mirror with an LCD GPS insert has been fitted as well as that the driver- and passenger-side front window regulators have been replaced.

The 4.2-liter DOHC V8 produced 340 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a Quattro AWD system.

Dealer-stamped service notes are logged in the owner’s manual, and $33k in receipts from Circle Audi dating back to 2005 are presented in the gallery. Service in the past 10k miles has included replacement of the radiator, alternator, battery, oil-filter housing seals, left-hand engine mount, fuel filter, and purge valve.

The window sticker shows $3,628 in selected factory options along with a total delivered price of $52,848. The seller also notes that the car is equipped with a LoJack anti-theft system that is not currently activated. The November 2019 Carfax report lists no accidents or other issues along with one-owner registration and service in California.

A walk-around video is presented above, and cold-start footage is below.

The current bid is $9,000 on this no-reserve auction and there’s still two days left. To finish up, here’s another quote from Mad Max, “Like the sign says, speed’s just a question of money. How fast you wanna go?” You can find the ad HERE.
