Find of the Day: 2000 Audi A2 That Doug DeMuro Took on a Euro Road Trip
THIS…is your chance to score a 2000 Audi A2 compact hatchback that was never offered for sale in the U.S. But this example is for sale via Cars & Bids. And Cars & Bids founder Doug DeMuro purchased and reviewed this A2 as well as featuring it on a Cars & Bids Euro Road Trip YouTube special.
The Audi A2 is a compact hatchback that looks like nothing else on the road. You may think that is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your perspective. But you can’t question its uniqueness. The car is powered by a 1.4-liter inline-4, rated at 74 horsepower and 93 pound-feet of torque. That power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
A2 Details
The power figures may not wow you, but this little hatch only weighs about 2,000 pounds. It utilized Audi Space Frame technology and was first mass-market car built largely from aluminum. It is an efficient little car and a rare sight on American roads.
The example of for auction here has approximately 93,600 kilometers or roughly 58,200 miles on it. The car is finished in Silver Metallic with a gray interior. It rolls on 16-inch wheels, has power front windows, and manual rear windows. It does have automatic climate control and an aftermarket Kenwood head unit.
In June of 2025 the car was fully serviced which included wheel bearings, four tires, shocks, fuel filter, and air filters replaced, engine oil and filter changed. Known flaws include some chips, dings, scuffs, and scratches around the exterior. Trapped condensation in passenger-side headlight. Paint cracks and indentations on front bumper. There is also a bit of corrosion on the underbody components. And just one key is included in the sale.
This is a rare and fun little Audi with a unique ownership history. And it shouldn’t cost you too much to put in your own garage. The car is offered at no reserve. Bidding ends on Friday, February 13.
