Find of the Day: 1985 Audi quattro Pike’s Peak Reconaissance Car on Ebay

Today’s find of the day not only previews a feature in our upcoming Q1_2025 issue of quattro Magazine, it boasts some significant provenance from Audi Sport rallying past. The car you see here is a white ur quattro that was used as a reconnaissance car by Michèle Mouton in 1985 ahead of her outright win there at the wheel of a modified Group B Sport quattro S1.

No, it’ snot a rally car, but you’d never touch a real one for the expected transaction price in this listing. That number projected on the listing is north of a pristine late production 20-valve road car, but not obnoxiously north. What that number will get you is a car with a fair share of rally parts on it, and of course the Mouton heritage. It’s an unrestored car, but one with well more of a back story than you’re likely to get in any Audi quattro road car we’ve seen.

The car is listed by Hansport, UK, a firm with some rich ties to quattro rallying history and the same one that completed the restoration of the actual 1985 S1 used by Michèle in Pike’s Peak that same year and now resides in the Audi Tradition collection.

This car is located in the UK, but given it is U.S. spec, customs have likely already been paid on it once before, which would make it a cheaper import than a Euro spec car.

Here’s how Hansport described the car online.

Everyone passionate about Audi and the legendary 1980s quattro rallying campaign knows the WRC victories, iconic drivers like Mikkola, Mouton, Blomqvist, and Röhrl, and the car’s evolution from long to short wheelbase. But fewer may be familiar with names like Joe Hoppen, Bruno Kreibich, and Frank Sprongl—pioneers of the Audi quattro in American SCCA rallying and Canada. John Buffum also deserves a special mention for competing on both sides of the Atlantic with immense success.

Built by Bruno Kreibich, this early American-spec UR quattro is a re-engineered masterpiece. Featuring U.S.-specific lengthened chassis floor strengtheners, it’s equipped with Group B competition tarmac suspension, titanium MBB chassis legs, AP Monte Carlo brake calipers, thicker anti-roll bars, and a Lehmann-tuned engine. Complemented by the Michèle Mouton-style red leather interior and supplied with the USA-type bumper and rear light strip, this chase and recce car is the closest you’ll get to a works quattro rally car for the road.
