2025 has been a challenging year for Audi in many ways. However, the First Automotive Works (FAW)-Audi joint venture has paid some big dividends. According to a recent report by CarNewsChina, FAW-Audi has claimed the top spot in the important Chinese luxury gasoline-powered vehicle market. It is the first time since 2019 that FAW-Audi claimed the title.
FAW–Audi sold about 567,000 vehicles wholesale and 570,000 retail in China in 2025, capturing 25.2 percent of the luxury gasoline market and 26.8 percent of the overall gasoline segment, which allowed Audi to reclaim the number one position for the first time in six years.
FAW-Audi expanded its lineup to 42 models spanning A–D segments, covering both gasoline and new-energy vehicles. The Audi A6L led the luxury C-segment sedan market with 172,000 sales, while the Audi Q5L sold 140,000 units, making it the best-selling gasoline luxury B-segment SUV in China.
In the future, FAW-Audi plans to introduce several new models, including the next-generation Audi A6L, A6L e-tron, S5 Avant, and SQ8, all expected to feature Huawei’s Qiankun ADS driver-assistance system. In parallel, the brand has rolled out a nationwide unified pricing strategy, eliminating regional price differences by adopting a direct-sales-style model that lets buyers deal directly with the manufacturer while still relying on dealers for sales support and service.
Currently, FAW-Audi has nearly 600 dealerships in more than 240 Chinese cities, including expansion to 28 new cities in 2025. China is the largest car market in the world. Seeing Audi have great success there bodes well for the Audi brand as a whole. In a tough year, Audi needs to celebrate each win, and this one is a big one.
