SUMMARY:SCCA Novice/Performance Driving School (3rd Party Event)
DESCRIPTION:Some of you will recall that Chapter leadership has been searching for ways to offer our members better access to quality performance driving instruction that is not oriented toward racing. Now\, in partnership with SCCA Atlanta Region\, we are offering an opportunity to do just that. Saturday\, May 10\, SCCA is hosting a Novice/Performance Driving School at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton. Audi Atlanta’s Bernardo Noguez-Ibarra and his wife Ursula have been participating in these Autocross events for some time and are our liaisons with SCCA. We plan to have several board members present\, so please let us know if you plan to register for this event.\nThis is an introductory event for drivers of any experience level to learn better car control and stronger mental control in a completely safe\, non-racing environment. The only obstacles you’ll encounter are the selfless little orange rubber cones that define the course layout. Sign up through MotorsportReg at the link below.\nOne on one instruction will be provided by seasoned SCCA volunteers\, and you’ll be driving your own car\, so everything will be familiar to you already. There will be timing lights\, but strictly for information only. This is NOT a competitive event! It will be fun\, though. Each car will proceed through the course separately in an Autocross format.

SUMMARY:Tire Rack Street Survival (3rd Party Event)
DESCRIPTION:If you’re a parent of a teenage driver\, you already know the uneasy feeling you get when they venture out into traffic on their own. In reality\, you can do more! Sunday\, May 18\, send/go with your teen to a defensive driving school designed specifically for young drivers. The Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School has added an event at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham\, less than 2 hours drive from Atlanta. Note that students MUST have a full license and will be driving their own car (or the one in your household that they are most accustomed to driving).\nThe program fee of $125 is nothing compared to the skills\, confidence\, and peace of mind you and your teen will get. Parents cannot participate directly in the program but are encouraged to attend. While you’re there\, check out the Barber Museum’s incredible collection of vintage cars and motorcycles\, open Sunday from Noon to 6:00pm. Bonus points if you can find the exhibits of particular interest to fans of the Four Rings! Let us know if you’re planning to go. We expect to have one or more board members present.\nRegistration is handled directly by the organizers HERE. Act quickly! There are only a limited number of spots left. If you do miss out\, there’s another chance when the event repeats on October 26. We’ll be sure to remind you!
