While we’ve known about the upcoming Audi RS Q8 for a few months now (reporting on it HERE, HERE and HERE), there’s no doubt that it’s gotten a lot more attention this morning with news its breaking a new Nürburgring lap record for SUVS (HERE). Seems about as good a time as any then to share news we learned during Audi Club Nationals 2019… that the RS Q8 will make its American debut (and maybe even world debut) at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month.
How do we know? News was dropped at Audi Club Nationals. Attendees may even have missed it if they were more focused on the shrimp cocktail, but Audi of America President Daniel Weissland made mention of it very quickly in his address to the assembled enthusiasts during the event’s Hosted Dinner event. We heard it and made a note to ourselves to share at the right time. Seems that time is now.
So what do we know about the RS Q8? Well, for starters, it’ll share the same V8 biturbo-based drivetrain as the RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback. AutoCar’s Nürburgring story from today confirms 592 bhp and 590 lb-ft, 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds and 190 mph maximum speed. That Audi let them ride around the Nürburgring in the RS Q8 with factory driver Frank Stippler suggests they likely have the inside line on details.
And, there are more details. The RS Q8 is said to use the SQ8’s 48V anti-roll bar system, though with 10% stiffer spring rates and 15% firmer shocks. It also gets four-wheel steering, torque-vectoring rear Sport Differential and unique Pirelli P Zero tires in 295 35 ZR 23 fitment. Yes… it’s got 23s.
In any case, look for more information on the RS Q8 later this month. Los Angeles Auto Show press days are November 18-21, which means the RS Q8 will likely drop on the 18th or perhaps the night before should Audi host a prior evening event as they did last year when Robert Downey Jr. helped pull the wraps off of the e-tron GT.
