Buttonwillow Update November 17-19, 2017

Three weeks until the Buttonwillow driving school, and this three-day driving school is shaping up to be one of our best ever!

Track Layout

Great for learning, and for practicing what you've learned, Buttonwillow is the safest of the Southern California road courses. Owned and operated by the Cal Club chapter of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), Buttonwillow Raceway Park is a modern facility designed as a training, testing, and club racing facility for their members.

On the weekend we will be learning and practicing safe driving fundamentals on our familiar track layout #1 with Star Mazda clockwise.

As a special treat on Friday for our experienced drivers (those who have previously been approved to drive solo at an Audi Club event) we will experience the track layout #13 with Sweeper counter-clockwise. Buttonwillow counter-clockwise is a hoot, with Phil Hill, the Bus Stop, Cotton Corners, and Off Ramp taking on entirely different personalities. In this direction the rhythmic Esses dump you straight into the Sweeper - what a blast!

There is no formal instruction on Friday, so our less experienced students are not driving. But since on-site check in and meetings happen on Friday afternoon, we invite everyone to arrive at the track early on Friday. Avoid the afternoon get-out-of-town traffic, check out the cars, meet the club members, see what we are doing, and bring along your helmet - there just may be an opportunity to get a ride-along with one of our instructors.

If you've been on the fence about taking that extra day off from work, now is the time to go online to Motorsport.reg and Edit your registration to add Friday.

We hope you will join us at Buttonwillow!
