Audi’s 2026 Formula 1 Vision: Patience, Progress, No Instant Results

We are all very excited to see Audi take the Formula 1 grid for the first time in 2026. We would love nothing more than to see the team grab the pole in Melbourne and then race off to victory. But according to a recent report by RacingNews365, Audi’s Formula 1 project leader Mattia Binotto, says we should pump the brakes on that idea.
“It’s more about managing expectations first and then about delivering in a way that for us, 2026 is day zero,” Binotto exclusively told RacingNews365. “We should not forget we are newcomers, it’s really a different environment, specification and competencies. The knowledge is very specific. It will be a continuous learning process. I’m not expecting to be the best power train at the start. That’s not the goal. Instead, I’m happy to see how the team is developing, the way we are developing, but it will be for us, 2026 a day zero,” said Binotto.
Audi Formula 1 2026 Expectations
He is right. As excited as we all are, we should probably go into the season with the expectation that the Audi cars will be back markers for much of the year. Audi has had a ton of success in motorsports over the years. But have never raced in Formula 1. And as Binotto said, Formula 1 knowledge is very specific. Think of it this way. If you are an Olympic gold medalist in Alpine skiing, that doesn’t mean you will compete for the gold in your first Speed Skating race.
But that doesn’t mean that Audi is content with staying at the back forever. The goal is to be competing for championships by 2030. 2026 will be all about learning and making incremental improvements. With each lap the team will gain more experience. If the team manages to score some points along the way, that is great. But points are not expected to come easy in 2026.
However, this season can be the start of something great. We have faith in Audi and what they can do. Let’s not get discouraged if they are not battling at the front next year. Their time will come, but they have some lessons to learn first.
