Audi S6 Test Mule at Nurburgring

We received these photos a few weeks back  but they never made it onto the blog. It’s time to fix that oversight, because the Audi S6 has been a longtime favorite of Audi enthusiasts since the model was lunched during the C4 era. A new C8 version is expected later this year, and the car you see here is the proof.

Which engine the new S6 uses remains to be seen. The previous car sported a more entry level tune on Audi’s 4.0 TFSI V8. And, while we believe another 4.0-liter turbo is set for the RS 6 and RS 7 we’ve seen testing in Europe, another option might be a switch to a V6 biturbo like the one in the RS 5.

Whichever the case, expect some interesting possibilities thanks to the C8 offerings’ switch to 48-volt technology. We already know that Audi’s so-called “mile hybrid” configuration now standard on the C and D ranges makes for improved start stop and thus fuel economy. The other potential here for future S and RS versions is an electric turbo as we saw in the TT clubsport turbo and SQ7 TDI. Other rumors, particularly around the RS-cars, suggests perhaps further hybridization like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid.

To be clear, none of these rumors are confirmed, leaving the above mainly conjecture of what we can glean of upcoming tech Audi has been known to be experimenting with. Time will tell when the S6 finally gets introduced to market, likely next fall in Frankfurt or maybe even before.
