Audi Rules Out Christian Horner for F1 Lead
[Source: GPblog]
It has been about three weeks since the stunning departure of Jonathan Wheatley as team principal for the Audi Revolut F1 Team. Mattia Binotto has assumed the role for now, but the team needs a dedicated team principal moving forward. One name floating around recently is Christian Horner. However, according to a report by GPblog, it seems like Audi has no interest in signing him.
Horner oversaw eight drivers’ championships, and six constructors’ championships during his 20-year tenure as team principal at Red Bull. That is one heck of a resume. And the rumors of him joining Audi really began to swirl when former F1 racer Juan Pablo Montoya suggested that Horner would be the perfect fit for Audi.
Christian Horner Rumor
“They need someone like Christian,” Juan Pablo Montoya told TalkSPORT. “I think people underestimate what Christian has done, how long he did it for, and what he achieved. You might like him, you might hate him, but he could deliver.”
The folks at GPblog are reporting that Audi does not see Horner as a candidate to replace Wheatley. One reason is Horner is not looking for just a paycheck at this point. He wants to become a shareholder in whatever team he joins, and Audi is not looking to give up any stake in the team to any team principal, no matter how many championships they may have won.
Of course, we can’t ignore that Horner was also caught up in a media storm when a female Red Bull employee made serious allegations against Horner of inappropriate behavior. Red Bull GmbH cleared him of all charges after an independent investigation. However, it did eventually lead to Horner being let go by Red Bull on July 9, 2025.
As it stands now Binotto will remain in charge with responsibilities likely being divided between several others until a new team principal can be found. We don’t know who the new team principal is going to be, but it seems like we can cross Horner’s name off the list.
