Audi Revamps its Long Wheel Base Lineup at Auto Shanghai 2025
Audi continued with its new model reveals in China, introducing a fresh lineup of vehicles developed specifically for the region. Partnering with FAW and SAIC, Audi showcased 19 vehicles, with the spotlight on four new models: the Audi A6L e-tron Sportback, Audi A5L, Audi A5L Sportback, and Audi Q5L. These vehicles are tailored to the unique preferences of Chinese customers, featuring extended wheelbases, cutting-edge digital systems, and locally tuned design and performance.

Audi A6L e-tron Sportback
Audi’s latest entry into the premium electric sedan market, the A6 e-tron Sportback, is the first electric Audi to receive the long wheel base treatment. Built on the Premium Platform Electric and assembled in Changchun through Audi’s joint venture with FAW, this all-electric model boasts a stretched wheelbase to enhance rear-seat comfort, a must for executive buyers in China. With a 107 kWh battery pack, it offers an impressive range of up to 770 kilometers and lightning-fast 800-volt charging capabilities. Inside, the A6L e-tron delivers a next-generation digital cockpit, merging performance, sustainability, and tech-forward luxury.

Audi A5L
Audi brings a refreshed take on its B10 generation compact sedan with the new A5L, filling the void previously held by the Audi A4 (and A4L) sedan models. The A5L stretches its wheelbase by 77 mm over the standard A5 Sportback, creating a more spacious cabin that meets the expectations of China’s family and business travelers. Powered by efficient 48-volt mild-hybrid engines, the A5L offers strong performance with a focus on economy. The cabin experience is elevated by the MMI panoramic interface and a dedicated passenger display, providing a refined digital environment tailored to local buyers.

Audi A5L Sportback
The A5L Sportback infuses the practical sedan format with sleek, coupe-like styling and dynamic design cues unique to the Chinese market. Built on the same combustion-focused architecture as the A5L, it features the latest engine technologies and advanced driver assistance systems that prioritize both performance and safety. With its fastback profile and digital upgrades, the A5L Sportback is a stylish option for customers who want an expressive look without sacrificing space or comfort.

Audi Q5L
Rounding out the new offerings is the Q5L, a long-wheelbase version of Audi’s globally popular SUV. With an additional 125 mm in length, it significantly boosts legroom and cargo capacity. Like its sedan siblings, it features a 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain that balances strength with fuel efficiency. The Q5L’s sleek, muscular design remains true to Audi’s SUV DNA, while its interior upgrades and advanced tech ensure it stands out in the crowded luxury crossover market.

Of course none of these long wheel base variants will make their way to the U.S. market, but it is interesting to see what segments Audi invests in across other markets. These new models were presented alongside the new AUDI E5 Sportback, meaning China will now have their choice of purchasing electrified Audi branded vehicles, from two seperate brands, both named “Audi”.
