Audi Q6 e-tron spied once again!
We spied the Audi Q6 e-tron for the first time back in February and now we spotted it during some testing at the Volkswagen Groups’ Nürburgring test center. This time we got pretty close up giving you the best look yet.
As we know Porsche is developing a new and fully electric Macan and the Q6 e-tron will be sharing the very same platform. .
The new Macan will ride on a new platform dubbed PPE , Premium Platform Electric, that is co-developed with Audi. While the platform for the Taycan (J1) was designed for cars sitting low on the road , the PPE is designed for high-floor cars like the Macan according to engineering chief Dr Michael Steiner. We think this has since then changed as we now know that the Audi A6 e-tron will also use this PPE platform.
Audi will also use the PPE platform for the Q6 e-tron that we now spied once again. Back in March Audi confirmed the name Q6 e-tron and also confirmed that it will hit the market in 2022.
PPE-based vehicles will offer range upwards of 480-kilometres, sporting a single electric motor at the rear axle as standard and the option of a second electric motor at the front axle for all-wheel drive. An 800-volt electrical system similar to the Porsche Taycan’s will make PPE-based cars compatible with 350-kilowatt fast-charging.
As we can see it looks something of an bigger Q4 e-tron and will offer as much space inside as the Q7 but with the length of an Q5.
Even since the first sighting was over 8 months ago the prototypes are still covered in the same camouflage. By the looks of it, the head lights are already correct production versions while we can see that the rear lights are still fake prototype lights. Look beneath the camouflage and you will see the air intakes on each corner of the front bumper as well as the shape of the lower air intake.
The charger ports are positioned at the rear fenders, we can see it on the left side but it’s possible there will be one on each side. On the right side it looks like there could be a charger port under the camouflage.
The Audi Q6 e-tron will roll off the all-electric assembly line in Ingolstadt from 2022, which is currently undergoing all-electric renovations. In 2023 a Sportback version is likely to follow.
By 2025, Audi expects to offer over 20 all-electric models as well as a rapid expansion of its plug-in hybrid portfolio, with more than 50 per cent of its combustion engine model series boasting a PHEV. Audi has also abandoned the development of new combustion engines as reported some weeks ago.
