Audi Collaborates on Future of Tolling with C-V2X Technology

Business Wire reports that Audi of America, Indra, and Qualcomm Technologies have teamed up to demonstrate a cutting-edge tolling solution using C-V2X (cellular vehicle-to-everything) technology. The initiative debuted during the OmniAir Interoperability Testing at Florida’s SunTrax Test Facility on May 9th, 2025.

This pilot project will show how C-V2X-equipped Audi vehicles can communicate directly with toll systems, streamlining the process for drivers. Rather than relying on mobile apps, transponders, or license plate scans, this new system will allow vehicles to display toll information and complete payments directly from the dash, offering a seamless, standardized tolling experience nationwide.

The effort is built on the SAE J3217 C-V2X standard and could pave the way for future in-car payment capabilities like parking and drive-through services. For toll operators, the technology promises reduced infrastructure costs, improved accuracy in vehicle identification, and fewer exceptions in processing.

Audi’s role in this collaboration reflects the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation, with C-V2X technology offering a glimpse into a future where cars handle transactions automatically and securely, all while contributing to smoother, smarter transportation systems.
