Audi A6 Avant Crowned 2026 Estate Car of the Year by Top Gear

In April of last year, we said that the new Audi A6 Avant stood for first-class travel. Top Gear agrees with us as they just named the A6 Avant as their Estate Car of the Year. Of course, we call estate cars wagons over here, but we agree with everything else Top Gear had to say about the new A6 Avant.

The new A6 Avant comes in a flavor for everyone. At least in the UK. Here in the states the only new generation A6 we have at the moment is the sedan. The RS 6 Avant and A6 allroad are from the outgoing generation. We may not get the regular A6 Avants here, but we do expect to get the new RS 6 Avant. However, today the UK gets a choice between gasoline, diesel, hybrid and EV versions of the new A6 Avant.

In summing up the Audi A6 Avant Top Gear calls it “the most relentlessly capable wagon launched in the past 12 months.” They are not fans of the digital wing mirrors but love everything else. “OK, so the digital wing mirrors should come slapped with a health hazard sticker, but the rest is near perfection for a family hauler.”

Relentlessly capable and near perfection is high praise indeed. It is one thing to hear such accolades from the Audi marketing team, but another thing altogether coming from a highly respected automotive outlet such as Top Gear.

We would love to get the regular A6 Avant here, but as long as the RS 6 Avant gets here, we won’t cry too much. And if the regular A6 Avant is this good, we can’t imagine how exciting the RS version will be. All we have to do now is wait for it.
