Apple Files Next-Generation CarPlay Images with EU IP Office, Include Audi Branding

This month Apple filed images of its next-generation CarPlay with the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office, which is standard practice to protect the design of upcoming design. The move signals Apple may be nearing launch of the new system, but also interestingly include Audi branding within the image submitted.

MacRumors filed a report breaking the story, including discovery of the filed image you see here. And though the image doesn’t officially confirm anything per se, the fact that Apple also said Audi was committed to offering the system when it previewed it back in June 2022, it certainly seems to suggest Audi will be an early player for the tech.

Apple had suggested the first cars to feature the new CarPlay system would be on the market by 2024. Since then, Porsche and Aston Martin have also shown previews of the system. However, time is running out and none of these brands has yet to show product with the new system.

In the world of connected cars, there is no doubt that CarPlay and Android Auto play a big part in creating a convenient and seamless way for drivers to make use of apps and functionality from their phones. Just who ends up launching the system or how long it takes to be native in Audi models is of great interest to Audi buyers.
