Over a year ago (it seems like a lifetime), we were talking about our next sweepstakes. Our previous one had ended and the prize was a choice between an RS 5 Coupe, an RS 5 Sportback, or an e-tron SUV. At that time, it was the most expensive prize Audi Club had ever offered. “Why not think bigger?”

The newest and hottest Audi had just been announced for North America and we had to get our hands on one. The Audi RS 6 Avant was finally coming so what better prize for our next sweepstakes? “Why not offer more?”

We reached out to Audi Accessories, Thule, Griot’s Garage, and Mountain Hardwear and they sweetened the pot. Audi Accessories offered Audi Beam Lights, RS 6 branded all-weather mats and trunk liner, Thule threw in a roof rack and cargo box, Griot’s Garage provided a full detailing kit, and Mountain Hardwear extended us camping gear including tent, sleeping bags (2 each), duffel bag, and a backpack. We weren’t done yet. We contacted our friends at Audi and were able to get special Audi exclusive gloss paint finish in the winner’s choice!

So after more than nine months, over 3,600 donors (with over 500 people donating more than once), 53,450 views, 650k entries, countless promotions including 1:18 scale models, stickers, 1 of a kind canvas prints, it all came down to today at noon.

Our sweepstakes partner, RallyUp.com, contacted us after noon and told us that they had randomly chosen a winner. We called the winner and…got their voicemail. We didn’t want to announce the winner until we had spoken to them first. We left a vague message (Hey…we have some good news about the sweepstakes for you so please call us back) and waited nervously until he called at 7pm.

Congratulations! George was coming back from his daughter’s soccer game and we both had to be on a conference call at 8pm so I was the lucky one to call Alan.

I don’t know why I was nervous…in fact, so nervous that I accidentally hung up on him. Needless to say, he was shocked and then ecstatic. He told me that he had played every single raffle/sweepstakes since he joined over a decade ago and boy, did he pick the right one to win. During our conversation, I found out that he had just retired on Friday and this was the ultimate retirement present anyone could receive!
