Just two weeks ago We drove the Lamborghini Temerario and wondered what that car might tell us about a possible Audi R8 return. And now Audi announces that Rouven Mohr, the man responsible for the engineering behind the Temerario project, will take over as Audi’s new Chief Technical Officer (CTO). Well, that is certainly an interesting development.

Mohr is no stranger to Audi. He previously was involved in vehicle development, verification, and fleet emissions at Audi. He has a combined 18 years of experience in the Volkswagen Group. His current role is that of CTO at Lamborghini. He was behind the brand’s hybridization strategy with vehicles such as the Temerario and the Urus SE. To say it has been a success is an understatement. In 2025, Lamborghini sold 10,747 vehicles, an all-time sales record.

Mohr replaces Geoffrey Bouquot who has reportedly left Audi to pursue new opportunities. On January 1, 2025, Bouquot assumed the role of Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG. Bouquot played a major role in pushing software development forward across the Volkswagen Group, helping build the foundation for software-defined vehicles and AI-powered engineering.

“I would like to warmly thank Geoffrey Bouquot for his important and valuable contribution to Audi’s technological transformation,” said Manfred Döss, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AUDI AG.

Technical Development sits at the heart of Audi’s long-term strategy, turning “Vorsprung durch Technik” from a slogan into reality for the next generation of vehicles. As the industry rapidly shifts toward electrification, software-defined platforms, and AI-driven engineering, Audi is doubling down on product excellence and design while moving faster than ever to bring new innovations to market.

Rouven Mohr will assume leadership of Audi’s Technical Development effective March 1, 2026. He will continue to serve in his role as Chief Technical Officer at Lamborghini until a decision has been made regarding his succession. Does this mean we will definitely see a future Audi R8 based on the Temerario? No. But it doesn’t hurt. Mohr brings a lot to the table and Audi fans should be excited to see him taking over the CTO role.
