Find of the Day: Salvaged but Sexy 2009 Audi S4 Avant Build

We try to feature the entire spectrum of vehicles in our Find of the Day feature. From low mile garage queens to high mile daily drivers. We feature cars that have been extensively modified and cars that still have the original air in the tires from the factory. This 2009 Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro that is up for auction right now at Cars & Bids has a little bit of everything.

Let’s get some of the bad out of the way right up front. This car has an ugly Carfax report. In July of 2018 the A4 was issued a salvage title. In September of 2019 the car was in an accident that resulted in “minor to moderate damage” to the front and left front. The insurance company declared the car a total loss. In addition, in August of 2021, the Carfax notes a possible odometer rollback. The seller claims that this is due to the installation of an S4 gauge cluster at that time. As much as we love this car, be sure to do your due diligence regarding the mileage and the ability to get the car registered in your state before placing a bid.

The Build

Why would you want to bid on a car with so many stories? Well, for one thing, just look at it. The car looks stunning with the green wrap, 20-inch BBS wheels and other exterior modifications. Second, it has been fully converted to B8.5 Audi S4 Avant specs. That includes the installation of a 3.0L supercharged V6 engine and a B8 S4-sourced 6-speed manual transmission.

Other B8 S4-sourced parts include a sports differential, exhaust system and subframes. Other mechanical upgrades include a set of KW coilovers, Integrated Engineering cold air intake system, a short shift kit and a single mass flywheel.

Cosmetic upgrades include an RS6-style front grille, brake calipers finished in white, A4 Competition Package front bumper with front lip spoiler, RS4-style carbon fiber rear spoiler, a color-matched roof box and a lot more. On the inside is another long list of B8 S4-sourced parts such as the dashboard, center console, seats, instrument cluster, door cards and speakers. You will control the car with a meaty MK3 Audi TT steering wheel.

The car has a checkered past and is unlikely to ever end up in the Audi Museum. However, if you want a great looking S4 Avant and the title issues don’t scare you away, this might be a great way to score a fantastic build that will give you many miles of smiles.  Bidding ends on Friday, January 2. Ring in the new year with this highly modified Audi wagon.
