Upgrade Alert: Five Audi Models Just Got Better for 2026

Audi is rolling out major hardware and software updates for the new model year across both its electric (PPE) and combustion (PPC) platforms, bringing new features and improvements to the A5, A6, Q5, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron model lines.
“With the new model year, we will be further enhancing important model series and offering our customers a host of new features,” says Audi Chief Technical Officer Geoffrey Bouquot. “These comprehensive innovations impressively demonstrate the future viability of the PPE platform for electric models and the PPC platform for combustion-engine vehicles.”
Driving Dynamics
For those that enjoy a bit more excitement in their drive, these upgrades may be of most interest to you. Audi’s new Dynamic Plus mode gives S5 and S6 e-tron models a far more intense, driver-focused performance experience. It sharpens throttle response, enables controlled oversteer (otherwise known as drifting) via sport-tuned ESC, and uses each model’s AWD and torque-vectoring systems for maximum grip and agility. A dedicated Dynamic Plus display adds shift lights and a performance-focused tachometer, creating a setup built for precise traction, playful drifts, and high-control driving fun.
Audi is adding a new drive select assistant that automatically chooses the best driving mode based on the driver’s style and current conditions.
For electric PPE models, efficiency and comfort are improved thanks to enhanced regenerative braking that can now slow the car all the way to a stop without using the friction brakes. This delivers smoother deceleration, recovers more energy, and increases overall driving range.
Driver Assistance
Audi’s updated driver-assistance tech brings major upgrades. A more advanced adaptive cruise assist now supports driver-initiated lane changes on the highway—simply signal, and the car handles the maneuver when conditions allow.
In city driving, enhanced traffic sign recognition boosts safety and comfort by automatically adjusting speed to posted limits and responding to stop signs, rough-road warnings, and right-of-way indicators using onboard route data.
Audi is enhancing its optional park assist pro for the new model year with smarter, more capable parking and maneuvering features. Reverse assist can now steer the car automatically for the last 50 meters when backing up, making tight or narrow reversals much easier. Maneuver assist adds protection in cramped spaces by helping avoid minor collisions.
A standout addition is trained parking, which can store up to five custom parking routines—each up to 200 meters—and repeat them autonomously on private property.
The system also introduces garage parking via smartphone, allowing drivers to park remotely without first driving past the space. This feature requires park assist pro with remote functionality, included in the Tech pro package.
A6 Digital Matrix LED Headlights
Because of U.S. regulations, we may not be getting all of these headlight enhancements here but they are still worth noting. Audi is adding digital matrix LED headlights to the A6 lineup, bringing high-resolution micro-LED technology with adaptive, customizable lighting. These headlights improve visibility in poor conditions and boost safety with features like lane guidance, road projections for drifting or icy conditions, and marking lights that highlight nearby pedestrians.
They also introduce three welcome/leaving-light projections and eight selectable daytime-running-light signatures. Paired with the updated digital OLED 2.0 taillights—each with 198 segments and dynamic dimming animations—the A6 gains a more distinctive and expressive lighting identity front and rear.
Interior Upgrades
Audi’s updated models introduce a new multifunction steering wheel and replace past touch-sensitive controls with more intuitive physical buttons. The combustion-engine A6 also gains new contoured front seats for better comfort and support.
All updated models adopt Audi’s latest Q3-style user interface, featuring simplified icons and a cleaner layout. Drivers can now choose from three virtual cockpit views—classic dials, full-screen navigation, or an assist-focused display. Smartphone integration is also deeper than before, allowing navigation, media, and calls to be mirrored not only on the main MMI display but also in the virtual cockpit and passenger display.
Audi Assistant
Audi’s updated, AI-enhanced voice assistant becomes smarter and more helpful for 2026 models. With new self-learning capabilities and access to the vehicle’s logbook, it can answer detailed car-related questions. Thanks to built-in ChatGPT, drivers can now search for destinations or entertainment using natural, vague descriptions, making in-car navigation far more flexible.
The assistant also supports a connected in-car office, letting users access calendars and emails and even read or compose messages on the road. Voice commands now cover more driver assistance features—including adaptive cruise assist and distance control—and the system can learn driver habits, automatically creating routines such as enabling cruise assist on highways or raising the suspension in familiar locations.
Dashcam
Audi is adding an optional, fully integrated 4K dashcam mounted at the base of the interior mirror. With HDR and a highly light-sensitive sensor, it captures clear footage even in difficult lighting. Drivers can start and stop photos or videos through the central display, and an event mode automatically saves the 30 seconds before and after an incident using a continuous ring buffer.
Automatic triggers—like hazard lights or emergency braking—can also start recording. All footage is stored locally on an SD card, with no data sent outside the vehicle. The system also logs navigation info, speed, and time, and all recordings can be viewed directly on the main display.
Gaming
Audi is introducing “experience worlds” that combine interior lighting, sound, massage, and climate settings to create energizing or relaxing moods. Activating, Relaxing, and Harmonizing modes last 10–20 minutes and adapt to driving conditions, while all-electric models add a Power Nap mode for restful breaks during charging.
Updates to PPE and PPC models also enhance in-car gaming, allowing Bluetooth controllers and wireless headphones for games like Asphalt Legends or Queen Rock Tour, with active privacy mode on the passenger display for undisturbed entertainment.
Timing
Orders for upgraded PPC and PPE Audi models open in weeks 48 and 49, with features and timing varying by market; the listed improvements apply to Germany. Hopefully most make their way to the U.S. soon.
