According to French news outlet 20 Minutes, actress Ana Girardot will play rally racing legend Michèle Mouton in an upcoming mini-series titled Rallye 82. The mini-series will be comprised of four 45-minute episodes and will recount Mouton’s historic rally racing career.
If you were asked to name the most successful male World Rally Championship drivers of all time, there would likely be several names on your list. Sébastien Loeb, Tommi Mäkinen, Sébastien Ogier and Walter Röhrl may spring to mind. However, if the question is to name the most successful female World Rally Championship driver of all time, there can be only one and that is Michèle Mouton.
Mouton Makes History
In 1981, Mouton became the first woman to ever win a World Rally Championship Race. It has been 44 years since that historic win, and no other woman has managed to pull off another victory. In 1982, she won several more races and finished second in the overall championship, just 12 points behind Walter Röhrl.
While Mouton is best known as a rally racer, she was more than that. She also won the two-litre prototype class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1975. A decade later she made history behind the wheel of an Audi Sport quattro S1 when she won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. She remains the only woman to win that prestigious race. This year marks the 40th anniversary of that remarkable achievement.

Audi Club North America was lucky enough to meet Mouton at Pikes Peak earlier this year to discuss her milestone victory. We captured the exclusive interview in a very special edition of our All-Wheel Driven podcast which you can view HERE.
We are thrilled to learn than this amazing woman will be portrayed in an upcoming mini-series. Filming is expected to run from October 6 through December 19. It will be broadcast first on HBO Max in 2026.
