Audi F1 Project Gains Momentum with New UK Technology Centre

According to Formula 1 news, as Audi prepares for its factory entry into Formula 1 in 2026, a major milestone has been reached in the form of a new Sauber Motorsport Technology Centre, now officially open at Bicester Motion in the United Kingdom.

Located in the heart of Motorsport Valley—a region in the UK that’s home to seven of F1’s ten teams—the 444-acre Bicester Motion site offers strategic access to a deep pool of motorsport engineering talent and leading industry suppliers. The newly launched facility, based in Building 123, is designed to enhance Sauber’s technical capabilities and support its transition into the Audi F1 works team.

According to Mattia Binotto, Head of the Audi F1 Project, the UK-based centre will serve as a crucial link between Audi’s headquarters in Germany and Sauber’s operations in Switzerland. “The opening of the Sauber Motorsport Technology Centre at Bicester Motion is a significant milestone,” said Binotto. “It allows us to tap into the local talent pool and be part of a thriving motorsport cluster, while also strengthening support for our home base in Hinwil.”

The new site is intended to attract top engineering minds, expand R&D efforts, and foster partnerships with high-performance supply chain specialists. This expansion reinforces Audi’s long-term vision in Formula 1—combining German precision, Swiss efficiency, and British motorsport expertise under one integrated effort.

Daniel Geoghegan, CEO of Bicester Motion, welcomed the announcement, calling it “an exciting step in [Sauber’s] Audi F1 transformation.” The partnership reflects Audi’s commitment not just to competition, but to innovation, sustainability, and the future of motorsport performance.

As Audi’s entry into Formula 1 draws nearer, this new UK hub marks another key piece falling into place for the four rings on the world’s biggest racing stage.

The French engineering firm, which has contributed to top-tier motorsport series including Formula 2 and the World Endurance Championship, now turns its attention to Audi’s in-house F1 power unit project. Development is underway at Audi’s facility in Neuburg, where the German automaker is building its first-ever Grand Prix engine.
