After its own launch and the presentation of its first concept car last year, the new Chinese only sister brand AUDI is set to unveil its first production model in Shanghai, the AUDI E5 Sportback. The nomenclature breaks down with E being the signifier for fully electric propulsion, the 5 marks the mid-size segment, and the Sportback is Audi’s signature four door coupe design. The AUDI E5 is tailored for a new generation of Chinese customers. Market introduction of the AUDI E5 Sportback is going to start in late summer 2025.

Furthermore, Audi’s existing brand are revealing a number of extended wheelbase versions of their latest models, which include the Audi A6L e-tron, the Audi A5L, the Audi A5L Sportback, and the Audi Q5L. The A6L e-tron will be made at the new Audi FAW NEV Company production site in Changchun. Construction of the plant was finished in late 2024 with production commencing in December of that year.

The gasoline powered “L” vehicles continue Audi’s long running success of offering longer wheelbase versions of their standard vehicles in the Chinese market specifically. The A5L is of particular interest, as it will currently be the only new B10 generation vehicle to offer a traditional trunk, as opposed to the A5 model being sold in the U.S. with a hatchback (i.e. Sportback) style rear opening. From a design standpoint, the A5L is closer in spirit to the outgoing B9 A4 sedan.
Look out for more details this week when the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show starts on April 23rd.
