Audi To Replace Entry Level A1 and Q2 Models With a New Compact EV
As reported earlier this year, Audi is preparing to retire its two smallest models, the A1 hatchback and Q2 crossover by 2026. These models, known for their affordability and compact design, have been popular choices among urban drivers in Europe and other markets like China. Both models also received sportier versions during their production run; the S1 and SQ2, with the S1 only being offered on the first generation S1 until 2018.

In place of the A1 and Q2, Audi plans to introduce a new entry-level EV positioned below the Q4 e-tron, potentially reviving the A2 model name, which has since received a bit of a cult following. This forthcoming model aims to blend elements of hatchbacks and crossovers, offering versatility and appeal to a broad range of consumers. It’s expected to share architecture with other Volkswagen Group electric vehicles, leveraging synergies within the group to enhance efficiency and performance.

While the A1 and Q2 have been staples in Audi’s lineup, their retirement paves the way for new technologies and design philosophies that will define the next generation of vehicles. The introduction of an entry-level EV reflects Audi’s dedication to making electric mobility accessible, without over extending their model lineup.

While the outgoing A1 and Q2 models have never been sold in North America, their compact EV replacement could fit into the U.S. market better as an alternative to other luxury compact crossovers like the Mercedes-Benz EQB and Genesis GV60.
