Choice Gear: Auto Union Type C Toy by Baghera

Thanks to gear blog Uncrate, we’ve stumbled across this toy Auto Union Type C that is officially licensed by Audi Tradition. It’s made of high quality ABS plastic by the Baghera toy brand based near Paris, meaning it’s tough enough for little kids to beat up on, and stylish enough to look great on the shelf of a collector.

Most Audi enthusiasts already know this, but the Auto Union Type C is an Audi forebear. The first-ever mid-engine car to be entered into Grand Prix racing (forebear to F1 for those keeping track), it was designed by Ferdinand Porsche with a V16 engine that was even supercharged as it evolved. Not surprisingly, the Auto Unions, named “Silver Arrows” for their silver aluminum bodywork, won a lot of races and are icons from a classic racing era. That’s all made even more interesting as Audi plans to return to its Auto Union roots by joining the F1 grid in 2026.

Interestingly, Uncrate has this listed as being from another maker of high-quality toy cars Playforever, but when we headed over to that brand’s website, we couldn’t find the car so we did a little extra digging. That’s when we confirmed the Baghera source, which may look familiar for those who’ve bought ride-on cars resembling pre-war racers from companies like West Elm or Crate & Barrel.

Worth noting, unless you live in markets like Europe outside the USA, it doesn’t appear that Baghera will ship one to you in the U.S. or Canada. Nevertheless, these are available. Uncrate’s is listed at $80 and we’re guessing that’s the recommended retail price, but we did find the same unit in a few other places by Googling it. The best price we found was on a children’s retailer website iforesea and currently on sale for $55.99.
