It’s test week at the Nürburgring and our spy photographers have caught the Sportback variant of the upcoming PPE-based RS 6 e-tron out lap testing. This isn’t the first time the RS 6 e-tron has been spotted, but it is the first time we’ve seen it turning laps on an industry test day.
We do note some key details on the RS 6 e-tron test mule. For starters, the front bumper is very different from the A6/S6 e-tron mules we’ve seen before. The fenders are also wider, with wider side sills, bigger drilled brakes and calipers, and wider wheels that look decidedly production. At the back is a small spoiler and possibly a diffusor at the bottom of the bumper.
You can also start to see some family resemblance design cues. Note the stacked and separate light assemblies at the front with marker/turnsignals above and headlights below. These are consistent with other electric models like the Q6. Also, there’s what looks like a smile in the lower fascia, similar to what we’ve seen on the RS e-tron GT facelift, but likely to be a more defined rectangular segmentation as was first shown on the RS 6 GT and that now appear to be a thing on the less disguised RS e-tron GT prototype that popped up last week.
The changes are definitely in keeping with what we’d expect from an RS variant of the PPE-based A6 range.
